This is my first offering of Hardtack from an extensive collection that I have accumulated over the years. The Hardtack, photo and stereo card make a very nice representative display of soldiers’ food during the time spent at Camp Alger. The Camp Alger soldier photo is excellent and is 5 x 5 inches. The 2 pieces of Hardtack are approximately 3 x 3 in size, one being just a bit larger than the other. I guarantee both pieces to be original. Once one handles many of these items you recognize certain patterns left from making of the hardtack. While each will show damage from age and handling, both are very solid. These 2 pieces were owned by soldier Stephen Smack who saved one piece for his mother and the other for his girlfriend. The stereo card is typical and is noted as a view of Camp Alger. Original pieces of Hardtack are rare and sell in the $100 to $200 range. My photos are just a bit lighter than the actual items.
Grouping consisting of 2 pieces of identified soldier Hardtack plus souvenir medal for Camp Meade. Each piece of Hardtack measures approximately 3 by 3 inches. Guaranteed to be original pieces of Hardtack. Spanish American War.
