Only the second such document I have handled in 40 years of collecting. Large size, 19 by 22 inch suitable for framing. In original mailing tube. A Silver Star for Gallantry document mailed to Michael Shanahan, Veterans Home, Napa Co, California, on Approximately April 1, 1927. Shanahan was serving as a private in Company H, 34th US Volunteers. Description of action; In pursuit of superior forces of the enemy under the Insurgent General Tinio in Norther Luzon Philippine Islands, December 4-18, 1899, while serving as a Private in Company H, 34 United States Volunteer Infantry Award was made March 10, 1927, signed by Secretary of War, Dwight Davis. Great condition. Tube even has survived. Recipient did not receive an actual medal but rather was entitled to place a small silver star silver pin directly on to his Philippine Congressional or Philippine Campaign ribbon.
